Fan support isn't there because they aren't competitive. "Great" is a pipe dream. You think the fans wouldn't show up to a shitty year if the games were enjoyable or exciting?! Have you not watched a Thunder game recently? When was the last time OU was good enough in basketball to attend the tourney let alone do anything in it? Buddy Heild's last year? Maybe the year after that? It was before Lon retired. I remember the turn outs that year.

Last year, when OU beat Auburn, I celebrated. I got hyped. When they beat Alabama, I celebrated. I got hyped. Why? Less about the winning and more about being competitive. Sure, beating Alabama is nice, but playing a game that wasn't lost by half was the story of the day. 

And you think that a program who sold out for 2 decades in football not "winning it all" was the only real reason that game attendance has been poo poo? With the last natty in cfb for OU coming when I was in high school?!? Bud, how much is a game this year? Depends on the team, right? Best prices are non-con obviously, how much do you think lower bowl is? $125 per. Against Maine?!? Why am I spending a tithe of my last take home to watch OU be competitive with Maine? Basketball tickets are better, but the seating is uncomfortable and for a similar price, I could get lower bowl Thunder tickets. Is it supporting OU? No. Would I have more fun and be happier? I vehemently disagree. There is no rise in expectations. Is the football programs motto "meet the inflated expectations"? No, it's meet the fucking standard. Are you new here? We are in fucking covered wagons, Oklahoma is win or bust. And if you whiff consistently for decades, you busted. Baseball is a great example. It was trash for so long. Skip came in and brought his winning culture and guess who gives a shit about baseball again? Sooners are very proud about their sports. But the sports people care about have always been a struggle. We were the worst in basketball and baseball in a Big 12 known for basketball and baseball. We excelled at football but were constantly talked down to because the rest of the conference didn't give a fuck about it. Now we move into the SEC. Known for football, basketball, and baseball and we suck at football and basketball. "Why is attendance and viewership down??"

One thing they need to have done about August of last year is realize, Toby Keith is dead. He meant very little to the fanbase as a whole. In fact, the games I went to this year, when his stupid song came on, barely any Sooners cared. But the opposing teams sure as fuck loved it. So, if Joe C and the rest of the administration in Norman were looking to make our home games nice and comfortable for the opposing team last year, they went above and beyond. Really impaired the Sooners as well, so good job there.

Through administration policy, Oklahoma does not have many big donors to dig out of the hole the athletic dept put them in. Exclusivity is great if you can get people out the door. The university has struggled at times. They need a radical NIL option that grabs small donations from anywhere they can (as long as it is legal). This $100 per month shit isn't realistic for Oklahomans. Give me a kofi account to drop a 5 spot once and a while. Create a kiosk (if bitcoin can have kiosks...) and put them at bars around OKC. IDK, but the current plan is doo-doo hot poo-poo pee-pee diarrhea bowl stinky and the fans aren't dumb enough to not see that before the admins.
